Aims of the Council
Statement of Aims
1. The Town Council's primary role is to provide a democratic representational voice for the Godalming Community.2. The Council recognises the unique character of the Town and undertakes to conserve its historic ethos.
3. The Council operates a policy of public participation and wherever possible meetings and proceedings of the Council will be open to the public.
4. The Town Council will seek to sustain the separate identity of Godalming and to promote a sense of community amongst its citizens.
5. The Town Council will endeavour to enhance its role in the delivery of local government services by:
a) negotiating with principal councils for extended rights to consultation; and
b) campaigning for the right to manage additional services which should be devolved to it, whilst recognising that any discretion is exercised within the strategies and policies prescribed by the relevant principal council.
6. The Town Council will seek to determine what services (and standards) are needed by the Godalming community and will endeavour to provide these services or secure their provision by the appropriate authorities.
7. Where the Council directly provides services it will endeavour to ensure that they are quality services at an economical cost.
8. The Council will always ensure that it deals promptly, courteously and effectively with public enquiries.
