There are many ways of enjoying the beautiful River Wey which runs through the centre of Godalming, one of the best ways is to get on a boat.
The River Wey represents an important part of Godalming's history. In 1764 the Godalming Navigation was opened making the stretch of river between the town and nearby Guildford navigable. Guildford itself was connected to the Thames at Weybridge in 1653 when the Wey Navigation was opened. From Godalming Wharf the Godalming Packetboat Company provides both Public Trips and Private Charters on the horse-drawn narrowboat the Iona. For more information see the Company's website: www.horseboat.org.uk
At Farncombe Boathouse it is possible to hire a narrowboat for a day or a longer period; canoes, punts and rowing boats are also available for hire. For more information see the Boathouse's website - link at the bottom of this page.
