A QUALITY COUNCIL FOR GODALMING
Godalming Town Council receives Quality Council Status
Godalming Town Councillors heard last week that the Council has been awarded Quality Council Status. In January, the Council submitted its portfolio of evidence covering all the necessary criteria for the Scheme. These include items such as good and regular communications with residents and encouraging residents to participate in local democracy.
Councillor Steve Cosser, Chairman of Godalming Town Council’s Policy & Management Committee said, ''I am really delighted that the Town Council has received national recognition of the considerable effort that has been put in by councillors and staff to ensure that we provide the very best possible services for local people. The award also recognises the work that we do to support and work closely with local people and organisations.''
The Quality Parish & Town Council Scheme was launched in June 2003, following the publication of the Government’s Rural White Paper, 2000. The Scheme is designed to provide a benchmark of standards to be achieved by parish and town councils and better enable them to represent the communities they serve.
